Sleep

by Meghna Anil Nair

Alone now,

I let go of the tiny wail I have been carrying in my mouth all day.

My sister is asleep beside me, teeth grinding and limbs jerking.

Her hair knots with mine on the pillowcase the nucleotides in our DNA.

Tomorrow we will wake up and she will be fine.
