Roadkill

by L. White

what will you do with your life?

lie in the road, possum-like

across the asphalt, angel-like

how does the end of it feel?

at peace in the body incongruent

waiting for a car to drive by

are you one with your body?

flesh pressed into the cracked pavement

and finding your self never changed

what is a reaction to roadkill?

cars swerve to avoid the mass

or run it over again and again

who are you in the dead of night?

I will be a formless thing

I will be a painless thing

L. White (they/them) is a queer, twenty-something poet currently studying at the University of Denver. They’re originally from Massachusetts, though they're not so unfortunate to have a Bostonian accent. Their big three are Cancer sun, Aries moon, and Libra rising. Their work exists at the intersection of poetry and peculiarity, drawing from subculture to explore queerness, belonging, pain, pleasure, and liberation in their work.
