Odd Socks

by Julia Vaughan

Joel wore odd socks

Joel was odd

I was too symmetric

Too pedantic

It bothered me

But not narrowminded enough

To not stop and listen

Joel’s Odd Socks Fridays

His nod to mental health

As everyone can have an

Odd Sock Day

A Bad Hair Day

An off day

Where everything

Goes awkwardly wrong

And that’s absolutely OK

Wearing odd socks stretched

My flexibility

Stretched my mind

Taught me more than

I expected

Thanks Joel

Now my every day

Any day can

Be an odd socks day

Colleagues and strangers comment

Many a conversation’s started

Even camping in Moonta Bay

Did you know you’re wearing odd socks?

Yup.  I truly did, and let me tell you why
