The Dish

by Julia Vaughan

The Moon landing, beamed back to the world

From The Dish, way back in 19-69

Parkes Radio Telescope

A telescope in a sheep paddock

Baz watched the Moon landing on TV

In Zimbabwe.  School teachers’ lessons

Focussed on the science

The enormity.  The achievement

Fascinating young Baz.

Dreamed of visiting The Dish

55 years later, a dream came true

Eyes teary

Watching it move, searching for pulsars

Extraordinary.  Overwhelmed.
