Fish

by Xavier Searle

Oversized fish take over

a Minnesota lake.

Kaijus by all rights,

left to deal with the curse

of living.

Wasp-venom-lipped

and crying, rubbing

each mouth on each stone;

somewhere,

smaller fish dream.

Somewhere,

kaijus return to the sea.

Xavier Searle (they/them) is a writer from Indiana. They are a lifelong lover of words, spending their time with poetry, sci-fi/fantasy, and horror as much as possible. The theme from Hausu (1977) is probably stuck in their head.
