Internet Love

by Rami Obeid

You are not going to find love in the forums

I am embarrassed to say it took me a while

I’ve scrolled miles upon miles,

Searching for them

And I’ve degraded myself in so many ways

I cannot write them in this poem

You are not going to

Find love in the forums

I thought I found it a few times;

Great White North Boy

Planning multiple trips to the states,

For multiple reasons,

That fell through multiple times

I jammed my radar for a while,

And I tried to forget about:

Iowa, Illinois, Arizona, New York

If you let it take over your soul, this, hunt

It will ruin you, I promise

While you are cooped up in your dark room of nothing;

Your mother bringing you dinner

Because you can’t leave the computer

Clicking “skip” and end chat”

And staring at a screen for hours,

For years

I wear really thick glasses nowadays.
