Impatient Psychiatry

Drank beer till the Dave Matthews Band sounded profound.

Punched a guy in the nose. And that guy? Yeah? Me all along.

Took an ambulance to the psych ward, fulfilling my paramedic fetish.

Shrink gave me that feeling I get when chased by hippos, knowing the last 10 seconds of my life will be gruesome and ridiculous.

Told him if I ever had value, it was that of ice, which is ubiquitous but useless when minted into coins.

He thought I was being ironic. Gospel is wasted on a carp.

Told him I wanted to bite someone's lip to see if their blood tasted different from mine.

He nodded like a man afraid for his life.

Said to him, Doc, just because you're here doesn't mean you're right.

He pretended to hate me only slightly.

Threw my dinner tray at the wall and screamed, Mother, where are you!? It's all pesticides in here and I'm a bee!

Didn't mean that literally. Did I?

Showed the nurse my scars, which are 1 part tree bark, 1 part howling coyote.

Did a puzzle in the lounge. Missing pieces. Did it again. Pieces left over.

Shrink did his rounds with judgement in a holster like a Glock.

Told him the stars are really meteors, burning my wishes up with them.

Told him not all gorgons have their snakes on the outside.

Told him I've stabbed my heart so many times it became a sheathe for the knife.

Told him, told him.

I've been here so long, they'll name a wing after me.
