at night

by Christopher Lloyd

CW: Depictions of sex & violence

sounds like fucking

no like crying he says

the din of foxes inside

each other or tearing

up the garden he is

always shouting she

is always hunched

over in the garden

a fox carcass melted

away I am the cat

ruffled by noise my

whiskers twitch for

her at the window

under the street

lamp I whisper are

you okay she is okay

he says back in bed

I’m that fox and

I’m yowling
