Grounding

by Benjamin Watts

Did you know if you sit here

on this park bench under the trees

if you sit right here just so—

No, you gotta take your shoes off.

You gotta put your bare feet on the ground

feel the cracked leaves and broken earth—

There, yes, just like that.

Did you know this park bench

gets you high? Gets you stoned

out of your mind, but really

it’s just Mother Earth blowing raspberries

on the soles of your feet, singing

how much she loves you into your ear.

And you can do it anytime you want.

No one ever sits here

or if they do, they don’t ever remember

to take their shoes off.
