angelform

by Mathew Yates

angelform fog

 which you can kiss

                       into a halo’d prince

bog-flower bloomed too soon but

still as punic as the dreaming hour

how can i expect to love eternity from this

putrid crystal pit of blood & hurting?

how am i supposed to commune with uncertainty

                                          without a mirror down here?

absolute light emanates from every lip i see

were you to speak just now

                              like that

 i would evaporate on back

                                       into angelform free

where i have always had memories of being

god i need a new leaf

reincarnation as a tree, maybe

won’t you kiss the air

                         & turn me back

                                           into a cage
